What’s Next For Brett Rogers…

Brett Rogers experienced the first loss of his career this Saturday on CBS when Fedor Emelianenko dropped him with a huge right hand, and shortly thereafter caused a referee stoppage. It has been documented in the past by many people that after fighting Fedor it’s tough to get back on track. Many fighters lose to Fedor and then never fully return to their true form. Will that be the same case for Brett Rogers? Not according to Mike Reilly, Rogers trainer, who spoke with MMA Weekly to discuss Rogers’ next move.

We would love the experience of going to fight in Japan. And we’re on Overeem’s heels, so wherever he goes. He sets foot on American soil; we’re on him. We were supposed to fight him in September. It grates on our nerves that the champion that’s been holding his belt for the last two years hasn’t defended his belt…If we’ve got to go through Antonio (Silva) or Fabricio (Werdum), then that’s what we’ve got to do…Whoever Brett’s fighting next, they should make their peace with God.

Maybe I’m just wishful thinking here, but I believe that Rogers will be one of the few fighters who doesn’t experience a downturn after losing to Fedor. He showed some good skills in the fight and is still very inexperienced. Rogers will remain in the top ten for a long time to come.
