UPDATE: Fedor Emelianenko Injures Hand in Rogers Fight; Nose Not Broken

There was speculation between the first and second round of the main event last night between Fedor Emelianenko and Brett Rogers regarding the status of Fedor’s nose. After taking a stiff left jab, which also happened to be the first punch thrown by Rogers, Fedor’s nose started bleeding. At the time it appeared to be a laceration, but the doctor confirmed with the announce team that it may indeed be a broken nose. Sherdog spoke with a source close to Fedor and confirmed his injuries.

Fedor Emelianenko suffered a broken nose and injured his left hand…After attending the post-fight news conference, Emelianenko was sent to a local hospital. He returned later the same evening with his left arm in a soft cast nearly up to his elbow…The source said the first examination could not determine if Emelianenko had broken bones in his hand, but that the Russian is expected to visit a doctor again Sunday to further assess the damage.

UPDATEMMAWeekly has confirmed through Steven Bash, Fedor’s American representative/translator, that upon further examination Fedor did not break his nose in the Rogers fight. I had originally suspected that Fedor suffered nothing more than a laceration to the outside of his nose. Sherdog has also retracted their original statement that Fedor had broken his nose.

The jab caused a deep cut to his nose, but did not damage it in any other way.

I’m still waiting to see the medical suspensions as that report will offer the most accurate details.
