The Emelianenko Curse

Is there a curse associated with fighting the World’s best MMA fighter, Fedor Emelianenko? If you take a look back at some of the people he’s fought, you’d see that most of them lose their next fight.  Let’s take a look back and Fedor’s last six fights.

October 21st, 2006 – Pride 32, Fedor vs. Mark Coleman

Fedor won by armbar in the second round.  Mark Coleman went on to lose his next fight, albeit 3 years later, by TKO to Shogun Rua at UFC 93.

December 31st, 2006 – Pride Shockwave 2006 – Fedor vs. Mark Hunt

Fedor won by kimura in the first round.  Mark Hunt has not won an MMA fight since then going 0-3.

April 14th, 2007 – Bodog Clash of the Nations – Fedor vs. Matt Lindland

Fedor won by armbar in the first round. Matt Lindland did indeed win his next fight by unanimous decision, but it was nothing more than a tune-up fight (Fabio Nascimento).  However, Matt Lindland was knocked out in a devastating fashion by Vitor Belfort in his second fight after facing Emelianenko.

December 31st, 2007 – Yarennoka New Year’s Eve 2007 – Fedor vs. Hong Man Choi

Fedor won by armabr in the first round.  Hong Man Choi went on to lose his next MMA fight against Cro Cop after his legs were kicked so many times, he couldn’t stand up.

July 19th, 2008 – Affliction Banned – Fedor vs. Tim Sylvia

Fedor won by rear naked choke in the first round.  Tim Sylvia just recently lost his next fight after being knocked out by Ray Mercer just ten seconds into the first round.

January 24th, 2009 – Affliction Day of Reckoning – Fedor vs. Andrei Arlovski

Fedor won by knock out in the first round.  Andrei Arlovski recently lost to Brett Rogers by TKO after being rocked just 20 seconds into the fight.

So what is the lesson that can be taken from these recent events?  Don’t fight Fedor Emelianenko.
