Strikeforce News and Notes
Well the last couple of days have been pretty busy for the California based organization, Strikeforce. With a huge card coming up in just over a month’s time, and not one bout official, many were left wondering what exactly was going to happen. We now have some answers to those questions, so let’s get to it.
- Strikeforce middleweight champion Jake Shields has confirmed that he is going to be defending his title against the recently signed “Dangerous” Dan Henderson (is that the nickname he’s going with now?) . Shields took to his Twitter to confirm:
Officially fighting @DanHenderson on 4/17 Strikeforce Main Event live on CBS!! Mousasi vs King Mo and more TBA.
- Current Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi will be defending his title against the ever entertaining Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal. The bout had been long rumored, but the trash talk has heated up recently so look for these two to meet in the co-main event of the night.
- Also confirmed for the CBS card is a lightweight contest between Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert “El Nino” Melendez and Dream champion Shinya Aoki. Sherdog reports that bout agreements have been signed, thus making it three title bouts for Strikeforce on CBS, on April 17th.
- Former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei “The Pitbull” Arlovski has signed a contract with Strikeforce, and will debut on May 15th in St. Louis. Standing across the cage from Arlovski will be Antonio “Big Foot” Silva.
- Speaking of the May 15th card, Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair “The Demolition Man” Overeem will return to the organization and take on Brett “The Grimm” Rogers in a heavyweight bout, though the belt will not be on the line. It is expected that Fedor Emelianenko will take on Fabricio Werdum on the same card, so look for the winners to face off some time this summer.
Be sure to check back with us at FightClubHouse.com as we will have more on these two cards in the coming days!
