Sirius XM Fight Club 12/22 Recap – Joe Lauzon and Scott Smith
UFC lightweight contender Joe Lauzon joined us in the Sirius XM Fight Club today to talk about his upcoming bout with Sam Stout at UFC 108, recuperating from his injury, training with his brother, and more! Check out the recap below:
- Holiday season hasn’t effected his diet, he’s on weight and can eat what he wants right now.
- Tore ACL in February, had ACL replacement surgery, and is back three months ahead of schedule.
- Still wants to fight Hermes Franca after all their trash talking earlier this year.
- Wants to be on the Boston Garden card to fight in front of his hometown in August.
- Would love to see both Gilbert Melendez and Donald Cerrone in the UFC.
- If necessary, he would absolutely fight his brother in an MMA fight.
- Joe doesn’t have a very big cut or strict diet, whereas his brother Dan has a tougher time making weight.
Next, we were joined by the recently victorious Scott “Hands of Steel” Smith. Smith, fresh off of a victory over the previously undefeated Cung Le at Strikeforce: ‘Evolution’ this past Saturday, had a lot to say regarding his health, his bout with Cung Le, his future, and more!
- Isn’t feeling too bad, although his elbows are very sore from blocking all of the kicks from Le.
- After getting cut from the UFC in 2007, the UFC said to get a few more wins and come back. Once a bout agreement was signed with Gladiator Challenge, a misunderstanding occurred and the UFC cut him.
- Has not seen his fight with Cung Le yet.
- Says the most painful part of the bout was the first kick that Le threw. Thinks Le started to slow down, and Smith’s corner said to not go backward, and to put combos together, and that’s what worked.
- When Smith was knocked down in the first round, although a lot of the strikes weren’t landing, Big John gave him his final warning and that’s when he got up. Smith wouldn’t have complained if they stopped the fight in the first round.
- Prefer exciting fights to just winning fights, and isn’t very concerned with a title bout.
- Would rather have a shorter career with exciting fights than a longer career with boring fights.
- Has no idea who his next opponent would be, but would like to fight Dan Henderson.
Be sure to check out the Sirius XM Fight Club every Tuesday and Friday from 5pm – 7pm ET on Sirius 122 and XM 143!
